Objetivo:A fissura labiopalatina acomete várias estruturas orofaciais e portanto, faz-se necessário a aplicação de um exame específico do sistema estomatognático. O objetivo deste estudo foi elaborar um protocolo de avaliação miofuncional orofacial para indivíduos com fissura labiopalatina e realizar a validação do conteúdo. Método: Após a aprovação do Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa, elaborou-se um protocolo de avaliação miofuncional orofacial, que contempla os aspectos estruturais e funcionais do sistema estomatognático. Esse protocolo foi revisado por dois fonoaudiólogos experientes na avaliação de pacientes com fissura la biopalatina e realizadas adequações necessárias. Em seguida, obteve-se imagens, necessárias à realização do exame miofuncional orofacial de 75 indivíduos com fissura labiopalatina, de ambos os sexos e diferentes fases da vida (infância, adolescência e adulta), que não apresentavam síndrome ou outras malformações associadas. As imagens foram armazenadas em um computador e transferidas para um dispositivo móvel para que três fonoaudiólogos experientes nesse tipo de avaliação as analisassem conforme o protocolo proposto. O objetivo geral dessa investigação consistiu em contribuir com evidências de validade do NEUPSILIN. Os objetivos específicos foram: 1) revisar os procedimentos e as análises estatísticas empregadas na validação de instrumentos neuropsicológicos, 2) examinar evidências de validade de construto do NEUPSILIN mediante análises fatoriais, 3) avaliar a relação entre escolaridade e hábitos de leitura e escrita no desempenho em tarefas neuropsicológicas, e 4) verificar a validade incremental do NEUPSILIN à avaliação neurológica de pacientes após acidente vascular cerebral (AVC). Participaram 1.017 indivíduos saudáveis e 15 pacientes com AVC, que foram avaliados com questionários de dados sociodemográficos e de condições de saúde, com o Instrumento de Avaliação Neuropsicológica Breve NEUPSILIN e demais escalas. Os dados foram submetidos a análises estatísticas descritivas e inferenciais, paramétricas e não paramétrica. Os resultados indicaram evidências de validade fatorial de subcomponentes do NEUPSILIN e de validade incremental à avaliação neurológica de pacientes após AVC. There is no consensus on the best method to assess the nutritional status of hospitalized adults although many methods are available. This study evaluated the prevalence of malnutrition in adults at different times of hospitalization (admission, 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th days) in two years (2002 and 2006). All patients were submitted to anthropometric assessment, Subjective Global Assessment (SGA), determination of serum albumin, and lymphocyte count. There were no differences in prevalence of malnutrition between the years of assessment, but great variability was found when different methods were used. An increase in malnutrition was detected when the diagnostic criterion was the total count of lymphocytes, while a decrease was detected in the case of the Body Mass Index (BMI). In both years, the increase in malnutrition was not statistically significant over the weeks of hospitalization. Over the years, malnutrition remains an important health problem of hospitalized adults, requiring appropriate diagnosis and management. Este estudo objetivou avaliar a concordância interobservadores de medidas antropométricas e avaliação subjetiva do estado nutricional em adultos hospitalizados. Pacientes internados em um hospital geral universitário tiveram peso atual, peso usual, altura, circunferência do braço, prega cutânea tricipital, percentual de perda de peso, Índice de Massa Corporal, circunferência muscular do braço e Avaliação Nutricional Subjetiva Global obtidos por avaliadores independentes. A concordância foi avaliada pelo coeficiente kappa, teste t pareado e coeficiente de correlação intraclasse (ICC). Foram avaliados 102 pacientes, com idade de 53±15 anos. Foi obtida boa correlação entre observadores para todos os métodos antropométricos (ICC>0,86) e diferenças médias de pequena magnitude. As variáveis categorizadas mostraram concordância ótima para o Índice de Massa Corporal (kappa=0,98; IC95%: 0,95-1,0), fraca para a Avaliação Nutricional Subjetiva Global (kappa=0,46; IC95%: 0,31- 0,60) e moderada para os percentis 5 e 10 da circunferência do braço (kappa=0,78; IC95%: 0,65-0,91), circunferência muscular do braço (kappa=0,73; IC95%: 0,54-0,92) e prega cutânea tricipital (kappa=0,65; IC95%: 0,48-0,82). Introdução: Este artigo relata uma investigação de coorte retrospectiva que avaliou a efetividade da psicoterapia psicanalítica com pacientes adultos em um serviço de atendimento comunitário na cidade de Porto Alegre, Brasil. Método: A amostra foi constituída por 34 pacientes divididos em dois grupos: grupo 1, 17 pacientes que realizaram tratamento por até 11 meses (média de 6,4 meses), e grupo 2, 17 pacientes com 1 ano ou mais de psicoterapia (média de 24,7 meses), contatados após o término de seu tratamento psicoterápico, em média 20,9 meses no grupo 1 e 29,9 meses no grupo 2. Os instrumentos utilizados foram: entrevista semi-estruturada, questionário de efetividade e escala de avaliação global do funcionamento. Experts independentes aplicaram a escala de avaliação global do funcionamento na entrevista inicial de tratamento (realizada pelo psicoterapeuta e encontrada no arquivo da instituição) e de seguimento. Resultados: Os pacientes melhoraram significativamente seu funcionamento global, comparando a avaliação inicial à de seguimento da psicoterapia (p < 0,001), independentemente do grupo de tratamento. Este trabalho discute a temática da avaliação institucional, na perspectiva da Avaliação Institucional Participativa e focaliza o sistema participativo da escola. Diante disso, esta pesquisa teve como objetivo descrever as instâncias do sistema participativo da escola e colher elementos para: identificar que demandas se originam nas práticas que compõem o sistema participativo - (CPA, Conselho de Escola e assembleias) e se elas se voltam para a melhoria na relação entre o professor e os estudantes; identificar a relação entre o processo avaliativo e educativo, se tem se constituído enquanto espaço de formação de valores e quais; identificar que aprendizados (outros) os segmentos apontam serem construídos nesse exercício. Este artigo objetiva discutir as condições de avaliação psicológica das altas habilidades e da excelência. Esses construtos reportam-se a realidades psicológicas distintas nas dimensões em que são definidos, mas a sua avaliação deve sempre ser pautada por parâmetros de precisão e validade. Se nas altas habilidades predominam as variáveis internas, e isso leva ao uso dos testes psicológicos, na excelência convergem os fatores contextuais de aprendizagem, treino e realização, apelando às entrevistas, histórias de vida e observação dos desempenhos na execução da avaliação. Recent legislation has stressed the need to decide the best end-of-life (EoL) option for post-consumer products considering their full life-cycle and the corresponding overall environmental impacts. The life cycle assessment (LCA) technique has become a common tool to evaluate those impacts. The present study aimed to contribute to the better understanding of the application of this technique, by evaluating the influence of the selection of the life cycle impact assessment (LCIA) method in its results and conclusions. A specific case study was chosen, using previous information related to an anti-glare lamellae (AGL) for highway use, made with virgin and recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE). Five distinct LCIA methods were used: Eco-indicator 99, CML 2 (2000), EPS 2000, Eco-indicator 95 and EDIP 97. Consistent results between these methods were obtained for the Climate change, Ozone layer depletion, Acidification and Eutrophication environmental indicators. Conversely, the Summer smog indicator showed large discrepancies between impact assessment methods. The work sheds light on the advantages inherent in using various LCIA methods when doing the LCA study of a specific product, thus evidencing complementary analysis perspectives.

Aims: Neck pain is a common complaint and accounts for a significant proportion of individuals seeking physiotherapy. Assessment for patients with neck pain normally involves a judgment of head posture. Head posture is considered important as deviations from ‘normal’ may have detrimental biomechanical and physiological implications and provide clues as to optimal interventions. However, studies comparing head posture between patients with neck pain and asymptomatic individuals have shown conflicting results. This article critically appraises the role of head posture assessment for patients with neck pain. Methods: The rationale for a relationship between head posture and neck pain is discussed; clinical assessment of head posture—including issues around surrogate measures, validity and reliability—is explored, and studies comparing patients with neck pain and asymptomatic individuals are examined. Finally, studies investigating techniques to correct head posture are appraised. Findings and conclusions: It is unclear whether the assessment of head posture through observation is valid and/or reliable and whether therapeutic interventions to improve head posture result in gains for the patient. Slender masonry structures are distributed all over the world and constitute a relevant part of the architectural and cultural heritage of humanity. Their protection against earthquakes is a topic of great concern among the scientific community. This concern mainly arises from the strong damage or complete loss suffered by this group of structures due to catastrophic events and the need and interest to preserve them. Although the great progress in technology, and in the knowledge of seismology and earthquake engineering, the preservation of these brittle and massive structures still represents a major challenge. Based on the research developed in this work it is proposed a methodology for the seismic risk assessment of slender masonry structures. The proposed methodology was applied for the vulnerability assessment of Nepalese Pagoda temples which follow very simple construction procedure and construction detailing in relation to seismic resistance requirements. A investigação versa sobre a análise da aplicabilidade do modelo de autoavaliação CAF nos Cuidados de Saúde Primários - nas Unidades Funcionais dos Centros de Saúde da Região Alentejo. Adaptando instrumentos da CAF foram aplicados inquéritos junto de profissionais de saúde, em Março de 2011, com a finalidade de realizar um diagnóstico dos serviços em estudo. As variáveis foram definidas a partir de subcritérios dos critérios do referido modelo, designadamente “liderança”, “planeamento e estratégia”, “pessoas”, “processos” e “resultados relativos às pessoas”. Participaram 77 profissionais de saúde, dos quais 20,8% médicos, 36,4% enfermeiros, 24,7% técnicos administrativos, 15,6% assistentes operacionais e 2,6% de outros profissionais de saúde. Os resultados permitiram realizar o diagnóstico desses serviços de saúde onde se identificaram áreas fortes e áreas de melhoria. Nowadays, most countries consider assessment for learning a challenge towards a more inclusive school. Their adherence to the idea may be consensual but the practices don’t seem to express this desire yet. Many teachers have been wondering whether there is an appropriate minimum age for students to reflect upon their actions, along with their teacher, so to overcome difficulties. This article reports a study that seeks to understand assessment practices, developed for five and eight year old students, particularly in the use of feedback in the development of portfolios and of worksheets in the classroom, as well as the contributions of those learning practices. This study followed an interpretative approach and was carried out in Portugal with a group of kindergarten children and a group of Grade 2 children. The data was collected from classroom observations, students’ interviews and documents analyses. The final results evidence that, regardless of age, students are capable of reflecting on their present actions and of deciding about future actions. However, while five year old students consider the feedback as part of their learning process, eight year old students are pretty much aware of what is right or wrong. Risk Assessment for Occupational Safety (RAOS) is the first and key step to achieve adequate safety levels, particularly to support decision-making in safety programs. Most construction safety efforts are applied informally under the premise that simply allocating more resources to safety management will improve safety on site. Moreover, there are many traditional methods to address RAOS, but few have been adapted and validated for use in the construction industry, thus producing poor results. The contribution of this dissertation is a qualitative fuzzy RAOS model, tailored for the construction industry, named QRAM (Qualitative Risk Assessment Model). QRAM is based on four dimensions: Safety Climate Adequacy, (work accidents) Severity Factors, (work accidents) Possibility Factors and Safety Barriers Effectiveness. The risk assessment is based on real data collected by observation of reality, interviews with workers, foreman and engineers and consultation of site documents (working procedures, reports of work accident investigation, etc.), avoiding the use of data obtained by statistical tecnhiques. Based on the presentation and discussion at the 3rd Winter School on Technology Assessment, December 2012, Universidade Nova de Lisboa (Portugal), Caparica Campus, PhD programme on Technology Assessment; Environmental concerns over the use of fossil fuels and their resource constraints have increased the interest in generating electric energy from renewable energy sources (RES) to provide a sustainable electricity supply. A main problem of those technologies (wind or solar power generation) is that they are not constant and reliable sources of power. This results inter alia in an increased demand of energy storage technologies. Related stake holders show a big interest in the technical, economic and ecologic aspects of new emerging energy storage systems. This comes especially true for electrochemical energy storage systems as different Li-Ion batteries, Sodium Sulfur or Redox Flow batteries which can be utilized in all grid voltage levels, a wide range of grid applications as well as end user groups (e.g. private households, industry). A prospective and active Constructive Technology Assessment (CTA) can help to minimize potential mismatches, wrong investments, possible social conflicts, and environmental impacts of new energy storage technologies in an early development stage. It is insufficient to exclusively look at the operation phase to assess a technology. Such an approach can lead to misleading interpretations and can furthermore disregard social or ecological impact factors over the whole life cycle. Different energy storage technologies have to be evaluated in a prospective manner with a full integrated sustainability and life cycle approach to form a base for decision making and to support technology developers in order to allow distinctions between more or less sustainable battery technology variations. Based on the report for the unit “Project IV” of the PhD programme on Technology Assessment under the supervision of Dr.-Ing. Marcel Weil and Prof. Dr. António Brandão Moniz. The report was presented and discussed at the Doctorate Conference on Technologogy Assessment in July 2013 at the University Nova Lisboa, Caparica campus.; The ongoing German energy transition causes a higher demand for reliable energy storage in the future. This increasing demand for sustainable, cheap, safe and efficient energy storage systems has caused a stronger public debate about the potential benefits of grid battery storage according to sustainability. This circumstance led to the preposition that there is a need for the development of a proper ex-ante assessment strategy to support technology uptake. The developed approach represents a framework for prospective system analysis (PSA) using the heuristics of constructive technology assessment to identify consequences, application possibilities or threats in the technological trajectory of grid battery storage. Within this framework PSA is used to quantitatively assess economic, environmental and social aspects along the entire life cycle of electrochemical energy storage technologies in order to identify hotspots according to sustainability. The Analytic Hierarchic Process (AHP) supports multiple methods in data collection and enables the analyst to combine results from PSA with qualitative actor notions about technology according to the “world” where it is embodied. In this sense AHP enables to achieve an optimum construct of technology from a stakeholder view point. The developed approach represents an efficient research strategy to shape technology in a sustainable way in frame of „Responsible Research and Innovation“.

‣ Assessment of scientific programs: a necessary procedure for Brazilian scientific policy - the Young Investigator Program of the State of São Paulo Research Foundation

Programs of Science and Technology research have grown significantly in Brazil over the last decades. Until the 1980s the so-called undirected programs, without specific goals and requiring only scientific merit, prevailed. The few programs with defined goals in this period were never objectively assessed. The same situation occurred in developed countries. In the early 1990s, the assessment of programs supported by public funding became mandatory in US and some European countries. In Brazil, program assessment has so far not been implemented yet. The Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa no Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP) (Brazilian funding agency) Young Investigator (YI) Program is in its eleventh year, with approximately eight hundred projects awarded. Although it is free-demand based as concerns areas of knowledge, it has specific goals : (1) conceding grants to YI in view of the balance between funding, merit and real needs so as to enable satisfactory working conditions in the short term, (2) providing priority for institutions with a less extensive background in research, (3) granting a special fellowship to YI with no employment connection and (4) introduction of new research fronts in centers with a sound research background. This assessment provided evidence for the achievement of first three goals. The fourth one is still pending on additional data requiring survey assessment. Actions in this direction are recommended.

CONTEXT: Malnutrition in cirrhotic patients with end-stage disease is common, and the degree of nutritional debilitation can play an important role in the pathogenesis of complications and cause a negative impact on prognosis. However, it involves difficulties and controversies regarding the identification of the best nutritional assessment method. OBJECTIVE: To identify a method that provides a safe and effective nutritional diagnosis. METHODS: Cross-sectional study with 129 cirrhotic patients. Anthropometric measurements, subjective global assessment, hand grip strength and bioelectrical impedance. RESULTS: Through phase angle of bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) method, significant associations with Child-Pugh (P = 0.008), age group and gender were observed. The ROC (receiver operator characteristic) curve was generated to determine the best cutoff point of the phase angle of cirrhotic patients, serving as one of the reference parameters for the nutritional assessment with bioimpedance in this study, considering the classification through Child-Pugh score as the reference standard for the clinical conditions of patients with cirrhosis. CONCLUSIONS: The assessment through bioelectrical impedance presented a statistically significant correlation with Child-Pugh score. The identification of phase angle of 5.44º is the new parameter suggested for the classification of the nutritional conditions of cirrhotic patients.

‣ Primary health care assessment tools: a literature review and metasynthesis

This study comprises a systematic review and metasynthesis of qualitative literature on national and international databases to identify the main tools used to assess Primary Health Care (PHC). A total of 3,048 results were returned for literature written in Portuguese, Spanish and English published between 1979 and 2013. Thirty-three articles/studies were selected after thorough reading and analysis. Eight of these studies addressed the use of one or more of the following validated PHC assessment tools: the WHO Primary Care Assessment Tool (PCET); the ADHD Questionnaire for Primary Care Providers (AQ-PCP); the General Practice Assessment Questionnaire (GPAQ), PACOTAPS (primary health care software); and the PCAT (Primary Care Assessment Tool). The study showed that the majority of these tools were used internationally. The PCAT and EUROPEP were used in Brazil and the most commonly used tool in this country was the PCAT. The results show that the use of research tools to assess PHC may assist in the creation of new proposals to improve family healthcare and that PCAT is the most adequate tool for this purpose.
