Apresenta-se uma história de vida com o intuito de traçar uma análise das manifestações particulares de uma trajetória individual em diálogo com os elementos presentes na vida de jovens de grupos populares. Foca-se na discussão dos equipamentos sociais na produção de sentidos, lugares e sofrimentos em algumas vidas, ocasionando processos em que "doenças" e medicalização são geradas a partir de problemas sociais. Com base nos pressupostos da pesquisa etnográfica, acompanhou-se a trajetória de uma jovem, por quatro anos, em sua passagem por serviços sociais de atenção à infância e à juventude, assim como de saúde mental. O ECA prevê a proteção integral a todas as crianças e adolescentes sempre que seus direitos estiverem ameaçados, e está embasado numa concepção de infância em que a criança é considerada como sujeito de direitos, como pessoa em condição peculiar de desenvolvimento, e do interesse superior. Vários movimentos e ações vêm sendo vem sendo realizados para efetivá-lo em prática cotidiana, e uma vertente importante dessas ações diz respeito à qualificação dos recursos humanos dos diversos equipamentos de assistência à criança, entre os quais estão os educadores de Casas Abrigo. A literatura aponta para as diversas dificuldades que marcam o abrigo ainda como um espaço de ausências, da re-edição do abandono e da violência, e as iniciativas no sentido de torná-lo lugar de novas possibilidades para as crianças tornam necessários investimentos de toda ordem. Ao apresentar o relato da trajetória de vida de duas mulheres ceramistas japonesas, Shoko Suzuki e Mieko Ukeseki, inserindo-o em seu contexto histórico e sociocultural, este trabalho tem como objetivo apresentar as construções históricas, representações culturais, experiências pessoais e subjetividades envolvidas na construção da sua identidade. A partir da análise do discurso e da prática destas ceramistas, recolhidos a partir dos preceitos definidos por Daniel Bertaux (1997) como récits de vie (relatos de vida), pretende-se compreender os processos pessoais envolvidos na construção da identidade cultural das duas ceramistas, marcados pela vivência transcultural decorrente da imigração para o estado de São Paulo, Brasil, nas décadas de 1960 e 1970 respectivamente. A história da cerâmica japonesa toma aqui papel relevante para a construção das imagens de japonesidade, traduzidas no discurso e na prática das ceramistas. Contudo, é na apropriação e reinterpretação destas representações em diálogo com suas subjetividades e experiências pessoais que a identidade cultural é recriada. A yearlong ethnography that documented the life story of a practicum team is reported in this paper. The life story included how the team cohered, how inclusion of supervisors-in-training affected the team process, and what team members concluded about their experiences. An audit trail of the ethnography included interviews of the therapists, supervisor, and supervisors-in-training, both individually and in a group. In addition, all informants audiotaped field memos about their experiences throughout the year. A domain analysis of the transcripts yielded four domains: 1) Steps in team building, 2) When the team is least effective, 3) Ways conflict developed on the team, and 4) Ways conflict can be resolved. The role of ethnography in articulating and in resolving tensions around diversity is discussed, particularly surrounding the entrance in the team of supervisors-in-training during the second semester. The paper concludes with a discussion of the broader implications of how ethnography may give voice to conflicts and tensions within family therapy.

There is an increasing focus on promoting person-centred systems across continuing care settings, emphasizing the need to enhance the quality of life of older adults. Life story books (LSB) can provide a holistic view of older adults, promote relationship-centred care and enhance person-centred care. The process of developing LSB involve collecting and recording aspects of a person’s life both past and present. The purpose of this study was to engage residents in developing life story books in a nursing home setting and then to explore the narratives and documented life story books with residents and their families. A qualitative descriptive exploratory design was utilized for the study. Five residents and three family carers participated. Focus groups were tape recorded and thematically analyzed and a review of the LSB was conducted. The central themes from the data analysis related to the social construction of people’s lives, social roles and religious values, relationships and loss, and sense of self.

Life scripts are culturally shared expectations about the order and timing of life events in a prototypical life course. American and Danish undergraduates produced life story events and life scripts by listing the seven most important events in their own lives and in the lives of hypothetical people living ordinary lives. They also rated their events on several scales and completed measures of depression, PTSD symptoms, and centrality of a negative event to their lives. The Danish life script replicated earlier work; the American life script showed minor differences from the Danish life script, apparently reflecting genuine differences in shared events as well as less homogeneity in the American sample. Both consisted of mostly positive events that came disproportionately from ages 15 to 30. Valence of life story events correlated with life script valence, depression, PTSD symptoms, and identity. In the Danish undergraduates, measures of life story deviation from the life script correlated with measures of depression and PTSD symptoms.

Over 2,000 adults in their sixties completed the Centrality of Event Scale (CES) for the traumatic or negative event that now troubled them the most and for their most positive life event, as well as measures of current PTSD symptoms, depression, well-being, and personality. Consistent with the notion of a positivity bias in old age, the positive events were judged to be markedly more central to life story and identity than were the negative events. The centrality of positive events was unrelated to measures of PTSD symptoms and emotional distress, whereas the centrality of the negative event showed clear positive correlations with these measures. The centrality of the positive events increased with increasing time since the events, whereas the centrality of the negative events decreased. The life distribution of the positive events showed a marked peak in young adulthood whereas the life distribution for the negative events peaked at the participants’ present age. The positive events were mostly events from the cultural life script – that is, culturally shared representations of the timing of major transitional events. Overall, our findings show that positive and negative autobiographical events relate markedly differently to life story and identity. Positive events become central to life story and identity primarily through their correspondence with cultural norms. Negative events become central through mechanisms associated with emotional distress.

Este estudo originou-se de inquietações vividas no cotidiano do trabalho docente e na interação com professores(as) nos cursos de formação em serviço. A necessidade de desconstruir impressões equivocadas, sobre a identidade docente desvelando a prática profissional de professores(as) de Geografia foi o desafio do tema aqui proposto. Assim, o caminho traçado teve como objetivo estudar como, na vida cotidiana, no exercício da prática pedagógica e ao longo do processo de formação docente professores(as) de Geografia de 5ª à 8ª série de escolas públicas, situadas em cidades ribeirinhas na Bacia do Médio São Francisco, integram e fazem interagir os saberes e significados provenientes de suas culturas locais e da sua cultura escolar. O subsídio teórico, de diversas áreas do conhecimento, propiciou aprofundamento e compreensão das categorias identidade, prática profissional e saberes docentes contribuindo para dar forma a produção científica. Recorremos a uma abordagem qualitativa e como metodologia adotamos a história oral de vida de oito professores(as) distribuídos em cinco municípios da Bacia do Médio São Francisco. Notre projet de mémoire consistait à valider auprès de personnes qui vieillissent et qui ont subi des pertes l’hypothèse de recherche suivante : « Comment l’intégration de grandes théories sur la vie spirituelle à l’outil du bilan de vie (à son questionnaire) aide l’aîné qui subit des pertes à trouver un sens à sa vie? » Notre projet de mémoire consistait à valider auprès de personnes qui vieillissent et qui ont subi des pertes l’hypothèse de recherche suivante : « Comment l’intégration de grandes théories sur la vie spirituelle à l’outil du bilan de vie (à son questionnaire) aide l’aîné qui subit des pertes à trouver un sens à sa vie? » Dans ce mémoire, nous nous intéressons à la problématique du vieillissement, notamment dans le cadre québécois, à ce vieillissement plus spécifique des aînés hémodialysés en situation de pertes. Using the life story method, 18 social bricoleurs (small scale social entrepreneurs) from eight countries were interviewed to identify motivations in becoming social entrepreneurs. Motivations included pull factors, such as an awareness of social injustice, and push factors, such as job dissatisfaction. Analysis indicates that social bricoleur motivations are similar in different cultures. When referring to the present or future, many social entrepreneurs seek scalability, i.e., an expansion of their vision and actions evolving from small scale organisations to larger organisations that serve multiple populations and needs.; Ronit Yitshaki, Fredric Kropp

Este estudio proviene del trabajo de Silva (2003), en el que describe el autor la historia de vida de las puérperas internadas en alojamiento conjunto para tratamiento de sus hijos con sífilis congénita. Tratase de un estudio exploratorio que utilizó el método cualitativo para alcanzar los objetivos siguientes: identificar las influencias de la cultura en la historia de vida de madres con sífilis; clasificar los tipos de factores culturales que influyen en las madres con sífilis, y discutir las implicaciones de la cultura de madres con sífilis para el cuidado de enfermería. Los resultados evidenciaron que las influencias culturales diversas, explicitadas por las investigadas, influyeron en las puérperas que transmitieron la sífilis a sus hijos en el periodo gestacional. Thesis (PhD) - Indiana University, Folklore and Ethnomusicology, 2007; The oral life-story is a flexible genre that allows one to connect the private with the public world. It is a window that allows the world to catch a glimpse of the personal experiences and values of the ordinary person. The representations of self and the past that are embodied in life-stories can be used as tools by researchers and activists for larger agendas that create meanings in culture and society. This dissertation deals with two different ways life-story collecting has served two different objectives. Mara in Latvia has created a "master story" that fills and commemorates the "silenced gaps" in Latvian history left by its fifty years under Soviet rule; Karen in Brazil has created a "master story" that works for social change and embraces the diversity of Brazil and the world. Through analysis of Mara's and Karen's own life-stories and the products they have produced, this study examines the "master story" each has created from the many life-stories told to them, against the cultural and political backdrop of Latvia and Brazil.

As compared with life writing which expresses the writer’s shifting understanding of past events, little has been written concerning the analysis of ‘life writing’ about the future. OBJECTIVE: A single-blinded, parallel-groups (intervention, active and passive control groups) randomized controlled trial (RCT) was chosen to investigate whether a specific reminiscence program is associated with higher levels of quality of life in nursing home residents with dementia. METHODS: The intervention used a life-story approach, while the control groups participated in casual discussions. The Social Engagement Scale (SES) and Self Reported Quality of Life Scale (SRQoL) were used as the outcome measures, which were examined at baseline (T0), 12 weeks (T1), and six months (T2) after the intervention. The final sample had 135 subjects (active control group = 45; passive control group = 45; intervention group = 45). RESULTS: The Wilcoxon test showed significant differences in the intervention group between T2 and T0, and between T1 and T0 in the SES, and there were significant differences between T0 and T1 (intervention effect size = 0.267) and T1 and T2 (intervention effect size = 0.450) in the SRQoL. The univariate logistic regression scores showed that predictors of change in the SRQoL were associated with fewer baseline anxiety symptoms and lower depression scores. A través de un relato de vida obtenido mediante entrevistas en profundidad a una sola persona, nos hemos acercado a un proyecto migratorio que se originó con la independencia de Argelia y la salida forzosa de los llamados pieds-noirs en un contexto en el que España se caracterizaba por ser un país de emigrantes. El estudio de un caso concreto nos ofrece la oportunidad de profundizar en una de las escasas inmigraciones que se produjeron en nuestro país hace cuarenta años. La entrevista ha sido dividida en tres grandes bloques: la vida en Argelia, la experiencia del éxodo y la experiencia como inmigrante. Particularmente, nos interesan los aspectos culturales y sociales que marcan una vida y acaban conformando una personalidad, una manera de pensar, de sentir y de interpretar la realidad. Recently, the Life Story Method has been used in the area of Business Administration as an important methodological strategy in qualitative research. The purpose is to understand groups or collective bodies based on individual paths of life. Thus, the goal of this study was to show the contribution of the life story method in understanding the identity dynamics of female professors managing a public university, by means of an example derived from an empirical study. It was observed from the reports of four female professors involved in management that recovery of past memories, as well as of values, facts, standards and occurrences connected with the primary and organizational socialization of the interviewees, contributes to understanding of their identity dynamics. This paper is the result of research in which we seek to correlate the education of female Biology teachers from different regions of Brazil with the educational context of the country in the period from 1960 to 2010, based on their life stories. Thus, this study is based on interpretive description and makes use of the life story as an investigative procedure in the field of qualitative research in the area of education. Results reveal the close relationship existing between the socio-politico-educational context and teacher education, since it is the former that directs the policies for the education of teaching professionals .  ; Este texto é resultado de uma pesquisa em que procuramos relacionar a formação de professoras de biologia de diferentes regiões do Brasil ao contexto educacional do país no período de 1960 a 2010, a partir de suas histórias de vida.
