Cognitive Neuroscience is an interdisciplinary area of research that combines measurement of brain activity (mostly by means of neuroimaging) with a simultaneous performance of cognitive tasks by human subjects. These investigations have been successful in the task of connecting the sciences of the brain (Neurosciences) and the sciences of the mind (Cognitive Sciences). Advances on this kind of research provide a map of localization of cognitive functions in the human brain. Do these results help us to understand how mind relates to the brain? In my view, the results obtained by the Cognitive Neurosciences lead to new investigations in the domain of Molecular Neurobiology, aimed at discovering biophysical mechanisms that generate the activity measured by neuroimaging instruments. In this context, I argue that the understanding of how ionic/molecular processes support cognition and consciousness cannot be made by means of the standard reductionist explanations. Knowledge of ionic/molecular meclianisms can contribute to our understanding of the human mind as long as we assume an alternative form of explanation, based on psycho-physical similarities, together with an ontological view of mentality and spirituality as embedded in physical nature (and not outside nature...

Pós-graduação em Educação - FFC; This study aims to investigate, in the scientific literature, what are and how are the scientific studies being developed that seek to relate Epistemology and Genetic Psychology of Jean Piaget with Neurosciences, and what are the possible contributions of neurosciences to Education. Methods and procedures: This study was conducted under systematic review. The procedure included the location, selection and analysis of studies indexed in the databases: Scopus, BIREME, Sage Journals, IEEE, PubMed, Oxford Press Journals and ERIC, taking as search keywords: Piaget and Neuroscience. Results: 145 articles were found, which were analyzed based on predefined categories that allowed the organization of a database in order to facilitate the crossing of identified information. 76 studies remained after the first exclusions. With the analysis of the abstracts of the remaining studies, 28 studies were obtained. These 28 studies were read in full, and those not related directly to the themes were excluded, leaving 17 studies for Systematic Review. Conclusion: After due analysis, it was concluded the studies have direct or indirect relations between the theories (Piagetian and Neuroscience). O conectoma cerebral refere-se ao mapeamento dos circuitos neurais com os objetivos de 1) identificar regiões que dão suporte às atividades mentais e comportamentais, e 2) detectar alterações nesses circuitos que levam a distúrbios de ordem psiquiátrica e neurológica. Na prática, os estudos de conectoma cerebral consistem na integração de técnicas multimodais de imageamento como ressonância magnética (RM), eletroencefalograma (EEG) e magnetoencefalograma (MEG) com o intuito de estimar os tipos e os níveis de conexão entre regiões cerebrais remotas. Essa "conectividade" entre regiões cerebrais é geralmente classificada em três tipos: anatômica, funcional e efetiva. No presente trabalho, as técnicas de conectividade, usando dados de MR, foram aplicadas na comparação de grupos saudáveis e patológicos. Pela técnica de conectividade anatômica observou-se anomalias na substância branca de pacientes com mutação no gene SPG11. Essa anomalias foram detectadas através da redução da anisotropia fracional (FA) e aumento da difusividade média (MD), difusividade radial (RD) e difusividade axial (AD) em regiões subcorticais dos lobos temporal e frontal, bem como no giro do cíngulo, cuneus striatum, corpo caloso e tronco cerebral. Tais achados indicam que o dano neuronal é mais difuso do que indicava a literatura. Um segundo estudo de conectividade anatômica demonstrou que esses índices de difusividade não foram robustos para diferenciar idosos com e sem diagnóstico de depressão indicando a necessidade de avanços na formulação de novos índices com maior sensibilidade. INTRODUCTION: To describe the opinion of junior doctors in neurosurgery in the UK and Eire about future reforms to training, and to relate this to the establishment of a generic neurosciences training programme. METHODS: A postal questionnaire survey of neurosurgery units in UK and Eire (36 units). All senior house officers (SHOs) taking part in a neurosurgery on-call rota during the 6 months between February and August 2003 (n=236); 190 respondents (response rate 81% overall, 90% neurosurgery SHOs and 55% neurology SHOs. The questionnaire covered most aspects of provision of training, working pattern and job satisfaction gained from the post. Also included were questions on future reforms for training. RESULTS: There is an overwhelming acceptance amongst SHOs for training to be centred on generic programmes. The audit also identified that there are many aspects of neurosurgical training which will be very suitable for trainees from other fields, thus supporting the establishment of a generic neurosciences training programme. CONCLUSIONS: The establishment of a generic training programme would encourage an improvement in training standards for the whole SHO grade. To ensure the success of this proposed generic training programme, support from junior doctors and all those involved in postgraduate education is required. Neurosciences teaching has the excellent potential to move towards the planning and formation of a generic neurosciences training programme in-line with the proposed reforms.

There are many kinds of limitative results in the sciences, some of which are philosophical. I am interested in examining one kind of limitative result in the neurosciences that is mathematical—a result secured by the Gödel incompleteness theorems. I will view the incompleteness theorems as independence results, develop a connection with independence results in set theory, and then argue that work in the neurosciences (as well as in molecular, systems and synthetic biology) may well avoid these mathematical limitative results. In showing this, I argue that demonstrating that one cannot avoid them is a computational task that is beyond the computational capacities of finitary minds. Along the way, I reformulate three philosophical claims about the nature of consciousness in terms of the Gödel incompleteness theorems and argue that these precise reformulations of the claims can be disarmed.

To date, feminist approaches to neurosciences have evaluated the debates surrounding practices of knowledge production within and research results of contemporary brain research. Consequently, neurofeminist scholars have critically examined gendered impacts of neuroscientific research. Feminist neuroscientists also develop research approaches for a more gender-appropriate neuroscientific research on several levels. Based on neurofeminist critique feminist neuroscientists aim to enrich neuroscientific work by offering methodological suggestions for a more differentiated setup of categories and experimental designs, for reflective result presentations and interpretations as well as for the analysis of result validity. Reframing neuro-epistemologies by including plasticity concepts works to uncover social influences on the gendered development of the brain and of behavior. More recently, critical work on contemporary neurocultures has highlighted the entanglements of neuroscientific research within society and the implications of ‘neurofacts’ for gendered cultural symbolisms, social practices, and power relations. Not least, neurofeminism critically analyses the portrayal of neuro-knowledge in popular media. L’objet de recherche de ce mémoire est la résilience vue à travers le prisme d’une démarche autobiographique dans un contexte de recherche-formation. Le concept de résilience pouvant être sur ou sous-estimé par divers chercheurs, l’auteure démontre dans l’analyse de son récit de vie, le fait d’une résilience ‘’ordinaire’’ et tout à fait réelle en opposition à une résilience ‘’hors de l’ordinaire’’. L’auteure aborde la notion de résilience à partir de différentes perspectives. Toutefois, elle privilégie l’approche des neurosciences qui démontre, par le biais de l’imagerie cérébrale, le remaniement du cerveau lors d’interactions. Der Fortschritt neurobiologischer Erkenntnis scheint es zu erlauben, Aussagen über die grundsätzliche Verfaßtheit des Menschen zu machen. Dadurch entsteht jedoch eine Spannung zu den Erkenntnisansprüchen von Philosophie und Theologie, die bislang für jenen Bereich zuständig galten. Zentrale Fragen sind dabei die nach der Wahrheit und die nach der Freiheit des Menschen. Die Leistungsfähigkeit des jeweiligen Erkenntnisanspruches läßt sich nur auf der Basis erkenntnistheoretischer Überlegungen miteinander vergleichen und beurteilen. Davon ausgehend kann untersucht werden, ob die vorgestellten neurobiologischen Erkenntnisse völlig auf dem Boden des empirisch Faßbaren liegen, oder ob sie vielmehr von metaphysischen Voraussetzungen und Deutungskategorien abhängen, die der empirischen Arbeit notwendig und uneinholbar vorausgehen. Diese Voraussetzungen herauszuarbeiten und zu verdeutlichen ist Ziel der Arbeit. Zunächst wird anhand der Überlegungen von W. Stegmüller gezeigt, daß jegliche Wissenschaft nicht darum herumkommt, Evidenz in Anspruch zu nehmen. Dabei können die jeweiligen Wissenschaften die Inanspruchnahme von Evidenz nicht durch ihre je eigenen Methoden eliminieren. Der Bezug auf Evidenz ist unabdingbar notwendig. La présente thèse reprend trois articles de recherche (deux études et un article de revue) portant sur les neurosciences cognitives du langage, chacun desquels a été écrit en vue d’identifier les bénéfices que la théorie (neuro)linguistique contemporaine pourrait tirer d’une étude exhaustive des processus cognitifs et neuraux sous-tendant les troubles du spectre autistique (TSA) et inversement. A proposta deste trabalho foi possibilitar a formulação de conjecturas sobre as neurociências a partir de leituras sonoras de "CInAPCe, rádio nômade, comunica-brincadeira: Uma metodologia de comunicação científica em Neurociências para alunos do Ensino Básico". Um artefato sonoro foi construído em duas edições, com atenção à imersão nas neurociências, e disponibilizado para grupos de alunos e professores do Ensino Fundamental, vinculados à escola pública da SME, EMEF Francisco Ponzio Sobrinho, Santa Odila, Campinas/São Paulo. A iniciativa buscou a aproximação escolar com alguns dos diálogos atuais sobre as neurociências, com ênfase em epilepsia e AVC (Acidente Vascular Cerebral). O objetivo geral foi verificar, numa perspectiva analítica, como um artefato sonoro pode ser inserido em uma experiência comunicativa com uma escola pública do Ensino Fundamental de Campinas. O projeto permitiu o debate entre alunos do Ensino Fundamental na faixa etária de 10 anos de idade (5° ano ou quarta série). Os resultados mostraram alguns aspectos interessantes nas neurociências. Setenta por cento dos alunos nunca presenciaram uma crise de epilepsia. Alguns estudantes (35%) têm parentes e amigos que já tiveram crises. Behavioral neurosciences have evolved from other disciplines such as psychology, psychiatry and neurology, becoming a prominent area within general neuroscience. In mainstream psychology, neurosciences currently have an important role. In this paper we documented articles published in four Latin-American psychology journals and we classified these papers as empirical or theoretical. We analyzed the main topics covered in the behavioral neurosciences. Most of reported research used humans and rats as study subjects, although other species have also been used as models. OBJECTIVE: to investigate aspects of the interaction which occurs between feeling and learning from the perspective of the neurosciences. METHOD: research with a qualitative approach, of the case study type, undertaken in Brazilian public nursing colleges. The research subjects were lecturers and students. The techniques of use of a questionnaire, individual interviews and a focus group were used in data collection. RESULTS: knowledge of cerebral functioning and the functioning of different structures involved in the learning of cognitive, technical, emotional and relational competences can help the lecturer in her task of teaching. CONCLUSIONS: we can outline the difficulties of learning and need, as lecturers, to develop teaching strategies based in the new knowledge from the neurosciences so as to maximize the students' learning. This new knowledge brings elements which contribute to the teacher's training, facilitate the process for the person learning, and make teaching more pleasurable.

Cette contribution propose d'interroger, à partir de la psychanalyse, quelques interactions possibles avec les neurosciences. Il s'agit de spécifier la particularité de l'investigation psychanalytique de la technique, notamment de l'imagerie cérébrale, pour en questionner les présupposés. Ce que révèle la prise en compte de toutes les dimension du dispositif, c'est qu'une méthodologie interdisciplinaire permet de circonscrire les limites de ce qui est observé. Ce dialogue veut garder la singularité de chaque position épistémologique. La méthode biologique ne peut pas expliciter ce qui est inconscient. En effet, les chercheurs en neurosciences semble confondre les processus inconscients et préconscient. Le risque pourrait être de perdre la spécificité de ce que la psychanalyse peut apporter dans le débat interdisciplinaire Par exemple, l'hypothèse du nouvel inconscient telle que la développe Lionel Naccache (2001 e 2002) est discutée à cette occasion et mise à l'épreuve de ce qu'enseigne la clinique. L'argumentation de cet article propose l'idée que le dialogue entre psychanalyse et neurosciences apparaît particulièrement fécond si la délimitation des champs et des méthodes se cherche et se précise, sans ambiguïté.

An essential tension can be found between researchers interested in ecological validity and those concerned with maintaining experimental control. Research in the human neurosciences often involves the use of simple and static stimuli lacking many of the potentially important aspects of real world activities and interactions. While this research is valuable, there is a growing interest in the human neurosciences to use cues about target states in the real world via multimodal scenarios that involve visual, semantic, and prosodic information. These scenarios should include dynamic stimuli presented concurrently or serially in a manner that allows researchers to assess the integrative processes carried out by perceivers over time. Furthermore, there is growing interest in contextually embedded stimuli that can constrain participant interpretations of cues about a target’s internal states. Virtual reality environments proffer assessment paradigms that combine the experimental control of laboratory measures with emotionally engaging background narratives to enhance affective experience and social interactions. Este trabajo investiga relaciones entre una teoría acerca de la memoria propuesta por Freud y concepciones que surgen desde la segunda mitad del siglo XX, basándose en observaciones clínicas (caso del paciente H.M.) y experimentales (concepto de potenciación a largo plazo, LTP). Primero, se presentarán ideas de Freud acerca de los procesos mnemónicos que subyacen a la construcción de un Yo, contenidas en su Proyecto para una psicología científica (1950/1976). A seguir, se analizarán estudios que dieron subsidios para la construcción de una teoría neurobiológica de la memoria. Se concluye que el modelo dinámico adoptado por la neurociencia presenta similitudes con conceptos freudianos propuestos a finales del siglo XIX.; Previous evidences suggest that psychoanalytical concepts and recent neurobiological findings may complement each other, contributing to the better understanding of certain psychobiological processes. CONTEXTO: Diversos estudos analisaram a produção científica de pesquisadores do Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq) em diversas áreas do conhecimento. No entanto, dados específicos sobre os principais pesquisadores brasileiros em Neurociências são escassos. OBJETIVO: Avaliar a produção científica de pesquisadores no campo das Neurociências que recebem bolsa de produtividade do CNPq. MÉTODOS: Os currículos lattes dos 58 investigadores com bolsa de produtividade nos anos de 2006 a 2008 foram incluídos na análise. As variáveis de interesse foram: gênero, afiliação, formação de recursos humanos e produção científica. As categorias e os níveis das bolsas de produtividade foram classificados de acordo com o banco de dados do CNPq. RESULTADOS: Houve predominância de bolsas do nível 1 (55,2%). Os investigadores publicaram 6.526 artigos (mediana de 90). Destes, 61 foram cadastrados no banco de dados do ISI. Não houve diferença significativa entre as categorias quanto ao número de artigos (P = 0,12). A mediana do índice-h foi de 10,5 e a mediana do índice-m foi 0,77. Não houve diferença significativa do índice-m entre as categorias (P = 0,28). CONCLUSÃO: Estratégias para melhorar qualitativamente a produção científica possivelmente podem ser reforçadas com o conhecimento do perfil dos pesquisadores no campo da Neurociência Clínica.; BACKGROUND: Several studies have examined the scientific production of National Counsel of Technological and Scientific Development (CNPq) researchers in various areas of knowledge.
