Here we investigate the feasibility of tumor metabolism monitoring in T1c to T3 breast cancer during neoadjuvant chemotherapy by means of phosphorus (31P) magnetic resonance spectroscopy at 7 tesla (T). Five breast cancer patients were examined using a 31P MRSI sequence, prior to-, halfway-, and after neoadjuvant chemotherapy. The 31P MRSI data were analyzed on group and individual level and compared to a spectrum of a group of healthy volunteers. Ratios of phosphomonoesters (PME) to phosphodiesters (PDE) and phosphomonoesters to inorganic phosphate (Pi) were determined. Histopathologic assessment showed four partial responders and one complete responder to chemotherapy. The 31P spectrum of the patient group was distinctly different from the 31P spectrum of healthy volunteers and transformed its shape during the course of chemotherapy towards the shape of the spectrum of the healthy volunteers. Prior to chemotherapy the PME to PDE signal ratio and the PME to Pi signal ratio were high, and during the course of the chemotherapy these ratios normalized to the value of the healthy volunteers. Metabolite T2 values in tumor tissue tended to be lower than those for healthy glandular tissue. A tool that measures the effectiveness of software project management can be used to identify strengths and weaknesses, and guide improvement to practices in order to increase the chances of project success. The Software Project Management Effectiveness (PME) Metric is one such tool that has shown promise in this area of software engineering. To discover how promising the metric is, nine software practitioners participated in this research and assisted with measuring projects they recently worked on. A strong correlation between the PME metric and project success was identified. The software practitioners also provided feedback on the usefulness and applicability of the PME metric. Seventy-five percent of the software practitioners stated that they would use the metric on the next project they worked on. This research has found that the PME metric should be considered for use by project managers who continuously want to improve and deliver successful software projects.

## ‣ Quantum algorithm for universal implementation of projective measurement of energy

A projective measurement of energy (PME) on a quantum system is a quantum measurement, determined by the Hamiltonian of the system. PME protocols exist when the Hamiltonian is given in advance. Unknown Hamiltonians can be identified by quantum tomography, but the time cost to achieve a given accuracy increases exponentially with the size of the quantum system. In this letter, we improve the time cost by adapting quantum phase estimation, an algorithm designed for computational problems, to measurements on physical systems. We present a PME protocol without quantum tomography for Hamiltonians whose dimension and energy scale are given but otherwise unknown. Our protocol implements a PME to arbitrary accuracy without any dimension dependence on its time cost. We also show that another computational quantum algorithm may be used for efficient estimation of the energy scale. These algorithms show that computational quantum algorithms have applications beyond their original context with suitable modifications.; Comment: 4 pages with 9-page supplemental, 4 figures. 5 pages, 2 figures, 2 tables.; Control and hyperhydric micropropagated plantlets from three carnation cultivars have been used to study their pectin composition and the activity of pectin methyl esterases (PMEs; EC 3.1.1.11). Pectins are a highly heterogeneous group of polymers that contribute to cell adhesion, cell wall architecture, and cell wall mechanical strength. Pectins control cell wall porosity and cell wall ionic status and are implicated in intercellular space development. The degree of esterification of pectins is controlled by the activity of cell wall PMEs; their different actions can affect the properties of the cell wall, which have been considered important with respect to controlling the development of hyperhydricity. The total pectins of hyperhydric leaves of the three varieties were significantly reduced in comparison with controls. The pectate fraction was significantly increased in hyperhydric leaves of all varieties while soluble pectins and protopectins were significantly lower. The PME activity of hyperhydric leaves was higher (4–10 times) compared to controls of the three varieties. Isoelectric focusing of PME isozymes revealed the presence of three isoforms; neutral PME activity was the major isozyme in control and hyperhydric leaves of the three varieties...
