A Antropologia Forense é uma área de conhecimento que aplica os métodos da antropologia física e da arqueologia para coleta e análise de evidências legais, buscando estabelecer a identidade de um ser humano. O Centro de Medicina Legal (CEMEL) da Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto da Universidade de São Paulo (FMRP/USP) possui um Laboratório de Antropologia Forense (LAF), criado em 2005, em um projeto de parceria com a University of Sheffield (UK) e financiado pelo British Foreign and Commonwealth Office Global Opportunities Fund. Durante esse projeto, foi elaborado um protocolo para análise de ossadas com uma estrutura científica atualizada, aplicável ao contexto social brasileiro. Durante esses doze anos ocorreu uma aparente modificação das características dos casos encaminhados ao LAF/CEMEL, o que levou à necessidade de uma análise detalhada e comparativa dos casos. Starting from the notion of "styles of anthropology" used by Roberto Cardoso de Oliveira in his research in the 1990s, which examined "peripheral anthropologies" in countries where anthropology was implanted later, outside the central countries - USA, Great Britain and France - where it emerged and had consolidated as an academic discipline, this article looks at the styles of anthropology with indigenous peoples which have developed in Brazil, Canada and Australia, ex-colonies of European countries. With very different histories and cultures, the styles of anthropology within the context of these national States which expanded over indigenous territories are examined, and the ways in which these histories and contexts reflect on what is being done today in field research with indigenous peoples. Some of the tensions which emerge between working within an academic discipline that aims to be international and universal while the national contexts are local are examined.

By analyzing some cases this article exposes the contribution of Anthropology, and specially, Urban Anthropology to the characterization of what may or may not be a cultural good and its value as Heritage in the context of the urban landscape. As a matter of fact, here it is shown the application of the ethnographic method, with its "inside and close-by" regard and with the categories of turf, patch, route and circuit, developed along researches performed at the Núcleo de Antropologia Urbana (NAU/USP) [Urban Anthropology Nucleus]. Thus, our aim is to argument that this work brings forth new elements for a better definition of the many heritage modalities - be it Architectonic, Archeological, Historical, and mainly the so-called Immaterial or Intangible. Thereby a fecund dialogue is opened between Anthropology and the disciplines traditionally engaged with the fields of Heritage and Museology.

What is the agenda of Melanesianist anthropology in the era of globalization? I advocate thinking of Melanesia as a site for the ongoing configuration of global flows of images and ideas, capital and commodities, people and technology. The historical and cultural contingencies of this configuration define the specificity of Melanesia. In other words, this configuration defines Melanesia as something less like a fixed geographic location or broad culture area and more like a localized concentration of shifting, not-always-symmetrical social networks within a global web of such networks. Accordingly, a Melanesianist anthropology would ask how social linkages and relationships—old and new—channel a traffic in meaningful forms that is more or less continuous with previous patterns. It would ask, What altered and alternative forms of culture, community, and personhood are emerging at the site called Melanesia? I accordingly propose how a Melanesianist anthropology might evolve by studying the (re)organization of social relationships effected through linkages into unprecedented and large-scale networks. In a conversation format, seven anthropologists with extensive expertise in new digital technologies, intellectual property, and journal publishing discuss issues related to open access, the anthropology of information circulation, and the future of scholarly societies. Among the topics discussed are current anthropological research on open source and open access; the effects of open access on traditional anthropological topics; the creation of community archives and new networking tools; potentially transformative uses of field notes and materials in new digital ecologies; the American Anthropological Association???s recent history with these issues, from the development of AnthroSource to its new publishing arrangement with Wiley-Blackwell; and the political economies of knowledge circulation more generally.

This thesis juxtaposes the comparable development of the written discourse surrounding three twentieth century modern art movements, Surrealism, American Abstract Expressionism and the performance art of Joseph Beuys, with that of cultural anthropology with regard to the role of each as cultural critique. This juxtaposition also examines the multiple layering suggested by the relationship between art, art history and art criticism to both, each other and to broader social and cultural arenas as comparable to that of anthropology to its 'other' as well as its own society. An anthropological analysis of the arts reveals their 'native' hermeneutic tradition and thus challenges anthropology to engage with realms of social discourse where it is not a privileged locus of interpretation. The crisis of representation faced by anthropology at present is compared to the crisis of subject matter which laid the foundation of modern art forty years ago.

Neste estudo, procuro esclarecer o capítulo da história da antropologia no pós-guerra que remete ao engajamento dos antropólogos em programas de assistência técnica na América Latina e envolve a aplicação do conhecimento antropológico ao campo da saúde pública. A investigação revela como cientistas sociais norte-americanos da Smithsonian Institution e antropólogos brasileiros e mexicanos, arregimentados por agências governamentais ou de caráter cooperativo, acabaram se associando a sanitaristas, administradores e educadores em torno de uma agenda comum de ações médico-sanitárias e projetos de desenvolvimento dirigidos às comunidades mais remotas e atrasadas de países como Brasil e México. A rede de especialistas apostou na contribuição que o relativismo cultural podia oferecer considerando a necessidade de tornar inteligível a realidade sócio-cultural das populações alvo das intervenções modernizadoras. Pretende-se, neste trabalho, determinar a função da antropologia moral na filosofia prática de Kant. Na Metafísica dos costumes, a mencionada antropologia é designada como a contraparte (Gegenstück) da moral pura, isto é, como o outro membro (Glied) da filosofia prática. Tal concepção impulsionou a presente investigação, de entender como Kant concebe a conexão entre a moral e a antropologia, uma vez que o filósofo também parece demarcar uma rigorosa separação entre a moral e a antropologia. Em vista disso, este trabalho defenderá a tese de que a antropologia moral de Kant é uma ciência pragmática, cuja função consiste em aplicar a moral no homem. Dito de outra forma, pretende-se mostrar que a antropologia moral, tomada como a contraparte da moral, cumpre o papel de formar o caráter moral do homem. A fim de demonstrar essa tese, os dois primeiros capítulos apresentarão um panorama da metafísica dos costumes (filosofia prática pura), expondo os problemas e soluções apresentados por Kant, e as evidências que sustentam a necessidade de haver uma antropologia moral. The adoption of diverse methodologies focuses scientific attention on equally diverse dimensions of the purpose of educational anthropology. The key categories in the study are educability and culture. Educational anthropology with an empirical method centers on the subject of culture. Educational anthropology with a philosophical method centers on educability. In terms of training teachers, this article proposes the option of edu­ cational anthropology with a philosophical method that includes both educability and culture, making use of the results of empirical research. Anthropology has a theoretical and methodological apparatus that is used when it comes to action in other fields of knowledge. This apparatus implements a cross-curricular dialogue and shows how anthropology is part of different courses and areas of knowledge in curricular contexts. In this text, some debates in biannual ABA – Sociedade Brasileira de Antropologia and restrictions of “Anthropology of Education” in Brazil and the objects, methods and topics it involves. Along the period of five ABA meetings, between 2000 and 2008, and in the debate about anthropology and education, a possible view of anthropology can be observed in a search for a good status for ABA and for a good relationship with and between anthropologists. The results of the Forums and GTs from 2000 to 2008 show us that, according to the various topics and approaches, projects, research and teaching experiences, this debate is still open, regarding anthropology of education. However, there is still very little effort towards thinking critically about the relations between anthropology and education. Objetivo: Desenvolvimento de um software para cadastro e recuperação de informações em Antropologia Forense baseado no protocolo desenvolvido durante o projeto “UK –Brazil Scientific Cooperation – Forensic Anthropology and Identification of Human Remains”. Metodologia: Por se tratar de um aplicativo acessado via Browser (software que permite o acesso à Internet, como o Microsoft Internet Explorer®) foi necessária a escolha de uma linguagem de programação que se enquadrasse nesse requisito juntamente com uma aplicação servidora. A linguagem escolhida foi PHP® e a aplicação servidora foi o Apache®. Para o armazenamento dos dados foi escolhido o Sistema Gerenciador de Banco de Dados MySQL®. Resultados: Testes realizados com dados reais comprovaram a eficiência do LAF 1.0 em se tratando de segurança, confiabilidade no armazenamento e recuperação dos dados além de satisfação do usuário, com o visual limpo e agradável das interfaces. Esta versão foi registrada no Instituto Nacional de Propriedade Intelectual (INPI) e encontra-se disponível gratuitamente para uso em todos os serviços médico-legais interessados em implantar um laboratório de Antropologia Forense. Conclusões: O software agilizou a geração de laudos de exames antropológicos para o Laboratório de Antropologia Forense do Centro de Medicina Legal (CEMEL) e permitiu a criação de uma ferramenta informatizada gratuita para uso em outros serviços semelhantes...

Este artigo trata dos desafios que otrabalho da cineasta e teórica pós-colonial feministaTrinh T. Minh-ha traz para a antropologia visual epara o projeto antropológico em uma escala maisampla. his article explores Johannes Fabian’s well-known thesis about the politics of time in anthropological representation and reviews critically the carrier of coevalness in the anthropology of Africa. It departs from the anthropology produced under colonialism, focusing on the British structural-functionalist school, and arrives at the anthropology of colonialism emerging in the 1990s, passing through the robust temporal disjunction imposed to the discipline by the African independent states that start flourishing in the late 1950s. This trajectory is followed by a growing theoretical awareness about the formative impact of colonial power in African societies. As a conclusion, I question Fabian’s prescription of an “actual confrontation with the Time of the Other” by recurring to contemporary perspectives about the post-colonial condition in Africa. O artigo apresenta leitura de O Pensamento Selvagem, de C. Lévi- Strauss, buscando demonstrar sua importância para a antropologia atual. Salientamos sua apresentação do “pensamento em estado selvagem” como possibilidade ou mesmo necessidade formal de todo pensamento humano, sua manifestação como arte, mito, bricolagem e sua relação com a ciência. Como se sabe, entre outras contribuições, esse livro apresenta uma noção de transformação entre conjuntos analíticos sistemáticos. Ao mesmo tempo, demonstra ser a atividade classificatória inelutável, afirmando um homem condenado a classificar, seja de modo totêmico, seja sacrificial. Nesse quadro, procuramos reunir diferentes estilos de pensamento — inclusive os nossos próprios, eles também bricolagens e classificações. Esse texto apresenta uma reflexão sobre o ensino de antropologia na formação de profissionais da saúde a partir da experiência de ministrar uma disciplina em Antropologia da Saúde em nível de graduação na Universidade Federal de São Carlos, em que é parte da grade curricular dos cursos de saúde, estando a cargo do Departamento de Ciências Sociais. A disciplina busca apresentar a teoria e a pesquisa em antropologia e propõe debater pesquisas sobre fenômenos da saúde em antropologia, de modo a melhor introduzir a pesquisa antropológica e, principalmente, a promover uma reflexão sobre a diferença cultural e o exercício profissional em saúde. Essa experiência suscita questões sobre a importância das ciências sociais e humanas, em especial a antropologia, para a formação desses profissionais, e sobre sua aceitação por parte deles, tendo em vista promover uma reflexão no modo como percebem sua própria prática profissional. The paper offers a powerful deconstruction of the idea of the ‘crisis’ of anthropology, linking it with the fashionable way of thinking at the turn of the millennium, but very little support in practice. It is argued that this notion of ‘crisis’ can only be applicable to some segments of the ‘Anglo-American’ anthropology, not to the discipline as a whole. The paper also includes a presentation of some major theoretical debates and terminological issues present in the 19th and 20th centuries, with special focus on functionalism. One of the points made is that some of the historically popular criticisms of the discipline (for its role in the colonialism, for example) should be contextualised, as the anthropologists’ role in this endeavour was actually quite limited. The paper presents five crucial sets of themes where contemporary anthropology is moving today, and where some of the most interesting research is being published. They are: the issues of identity; research on the body; consumption and material culture; studies of space and hybridity; and media and popular culture. In this introductory article, we call for a new anthropology of bureaucracy focused on ‘the public good’. We aim to recapture this concept from its classic setting within the discipline of economics. We argue that such a move is particularly important now because new public goods – of transparency, fiscal discipline and decentralization – are being pressed into the service of states and transnational organizations: it has therefore become critical to focus on their techniques, effects and affects through fine-grained ethnography that challenges the economization of the political. We demonstrate our approach through some ethnographic findings from different parts of India. These show how fiscal austerity leads to new limited social contracts and precarious intimacies with the post-liberalization Indian state. This relationship between new public goods and forms of precarious citizenship is then further illuminated by the six articles that follow in this special issue.
