O ensino da Engenharia por meios eletrônicos de aprendizagem demanda a implementação de métodos práticos que facilitem ao aluno aprender conteúdos do tipo procedimentos e atitudes, por meio da ação, da interação dos participantes, e da integração de conhecimentos de diferentes áreas. Esta aprendizagem só pode ser efetiva em contextos significativos e a partir de situações específicas, que são estimulados com a utilização do método de projeto. A eficácia deste método é alcançada quando utilizado em grupos, onde um membro aprende na integração com outro, compartilhando recursos e conhecimentos, e adquirindo ou exercitando um conjunto de habilidades pessoais, atualmente muito necessárias no trabalho profissional do Engenheiro. Embora conhecida a importância do método de projeto no estilo de aprendizagem colaborativa, não existem orientações para sua utilização no modelo de ensino-aprendizagem a distância. Em uma de suas definções, a Terminologia representa o conjunto de princípios e métodos adotados no processo de gestão e criação de produtos terminológicos, tais como glossários e dicionários de termos. A sistematização desses métodos envolve a aplicação de ferramentas computacionais específicas e compatíveis com as tarefas terminológicas, contribuindo para o desenvolvimento desses produtos e a difusão de conhecimento especializado. Entretanto, principalmente no Brasil, a combinação da Terminologia e Informática é incipiente, e dentre as atividades do trabalho terminológico é comum a utilização de várias ferramentas não especializados para esse fim. Isso torna o trabalho dos terminólogos muito moroso, pois esse trabalho geralmente é feito por uma equipe multidisciplinar que deve ter acesso, a todo o momento, à versão mais atual das várias etapas da geração de um produto terminológico. Cooperative manipulation refers to the simultaneous manipulation of a virtual object by multiple users in an immersive virtual environment (VE). In this work, we present techniques for cooperative manipulation based on existing single-user techniques. We discuss methods of combining simultaneous user actions, based on the separation of degrees of freedom between two users, and the awareness tools used to provide the necessary knowledge of the partner activities during the cooperative interaction process. We also present a framework for supporting the development of cooperative manipulation techniques, which are based on rules for combining single user interaction techniques. Finally, we report an evaluation of cooperative manipulation scenarios, the results indicating that, in certain situations, cooperative manipulation is more efficient and usable than singleuser manipulation.

O potencial crescimento do acesso à Web nos mais diversos segmentos da população - sejam elas determinadas por aspectos sócio-econômicos, culturais, de letramento, deficiências físicas ou de habilidades com Tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação - tem modificado significativamente a maneira como a Web é utilizada. This research analyzed the relevance of the social interaction in teaching-learning processes, considering the Collaborative Learning as the methodology. Thus, texts from periodic Química Nova na Escola were used for reading and therefore analysis of the social interaction processes between the peers. From reading and comprehension of chemistry conceptions of the texts, the students should interact with their peers and to use the collaboration as a way of promoting understanding and helping the classmate to build a solid knowledge. The objects employed to analysis were peer moments interaction, teacher-student interactions as well, and the comprehension and learning of chemistry concepts considering the collaborative methodology. The analysis of data defined categories which established a pattern behavior and guided us to relation between learning collaboration and social interaction in the classroom. Therefore, the analysis signalizing a tool to be used to build an effective and autonomous process of teaching-learning. The results showed that in considering the peers as leading figure for the cognitive development, the projection of teaching-learning processes need to go beyond social interaction. This study aims at investigating how the ways the students from the Ensino Fundamental review their text productions, when engaged in collaborative tasks, can influence the individual text revision in the English language. Our goal was to understand the revision strategies used by the learners during the collaborative task, analyze the text changes after the peer interactions considering affective factors, as well as examine the students’ perceptions about the collaborative and individual revision activities. Six students from the ninth year of the Ensino Fundamental of a public state school participated in this study case from August to December 2012. In order to collect the data, we made use of qualitative research principles and, at some moments, quantitative resources. For a better understanding of the learning, interaction and collaboration process, this study is based on the sociocultural theory, on theories about collaborative learning and on the affective factors in correction. The results show that the collaborative revision does not only promote a student’s text production improvement, through the positive atmosphere in which it is possible to learn from and teach his/her peer, but also the gradual development of the perception of the possibility of selfcorrection. This paper presents a prototype of a hands-on immersive peripheral device for controlling a virtual hand with high dexterity. Based on the results of users’ tests on previous versions of our device and on the analysis of a manipulation task, this prototype is as easy as a mouse to use and allows the control of a high number of degrees of freedom (dofs) with tactile feedback. Design issues, physical phenomena and physiological behaviors are tightly linked and highly influence interaction. The goals corresponding to these issues include the choice of sensors’ technology and their position on the device, low efforts exerted while using the device, relevant multisensorial feedback, performance of achieved tasks. An example of a grasping task illustrates the effectiveness of our device to achieve intuitive and efficient interactions, bringing new insights for collaborative interaction.

Multi-user virtual environments (MUVEs) have captured the attention and interest of educators as remote collaborative learning environments due to their immersion, interaction and communication capabilities. However, productive learning interactions cannot be considered a given and careful consideration of the design of learning activities and organizational support must be provided to foster collaboration. In this paper, a model to support collaborative learning in MUVEs is presented. This model enables the scaffolding of learning workflows and organizes collaborative learning activities by regulating interactions. Software architecture is developed to support the model, and to deploy and enact collaborative learning modules. A user-centered design has been followed to identify successful strategies for modeling collaborative learning activities in a case study. The results show how interactions with elements of 3D virtual worlds can enforce collaboration in MUVEs.

When designing a collaborative virtual environment (CVE) one important decision is to identify the right interaction technique to be used. This paper takes the position that the interaction techniques used in a CVE have an effect on user’s collaborative experience. Paper investigates the effect of three 3D navigation techniques on user’s experience when interacting in a CVE. We report the affordances of navigation techniques using different aspects of user’s experience such as awareness, perception of collaborative effort, presence and satisfaction. 40 subjects were grouped in pairs of two users to perform a collaborative navigation task. Our results show that giving the user’s a direct control of their actions influences positively their copresence and awareness. A direct visual feedback of the partner’s point of view is beneficial for the copresence and the awareness. Finally, the space reference and the orientation in the virtual environment (VE) have an impact on the user involvement. These results provide an initial set of guidelines for the design of collaborative virtual environments.

At a more technological and literate society statistics play a relevant role in order to allow people becoming critical and active citizens. Statistics is part of our daily life. Most media refer to statistical knowledge showing graphs, tables or means in order to sound scientifically supported and to be able to manipulate people’s opinion about what is going on in the world. Choosing the information one reads, analysing it, processing data and deciding different ways of presenting them are some of the competencies that we need to develop and mobilize. School practices play an essential role in the access pupils will have, or not, to these forms of literacy so deeply needed in a complex, changing and multicultural society. Nowadays most international and Portuguese policy documents refer that school should provide the means to develop each pupil’s competencies, namely the ones related to communication and to participant citizenship. The work described in this thesis aims to support the distributed design of integrated systems and considers specifically the need for collaborative interaction among designers. Particular emphasis was given to issues which were only marginally considered in previous approaches, such as the abstraction of the distribution of design automation resources over the network, the possibility of both synchronous and asynchronous interaction among designers and the support for extensible design data models. Such issues demand a rather complex software infrastructure, as possible solutions must encompass a wide range of software modules: from user interfaces to middleware to databases. To build such structure, several engineering techniques were employed and some original solutions were devised. The core of the proposed solution is based in the joint application of two homonymic technologies: CAD Frameworks and object-oriented frameworks. La presente investigación propuso analizar la influencia de ladesigualdad intelectual sobre la interacción colaborativa de diadasde niños de ocho años en el marco de una tarea de construcciónde modelos con bloques. La interacción colaborativa fue examinada según sudimensión verbal (tipos de mensaje) y la modalidad social de ejecución dela tarea. Los datos se procesaron de manera cuantitativa y cualitativa. Losresultados mostraron que la homogeneidad-heterogeneidad intelectualentre los participantes influye principalmente sobre la participaciónverbal relativa a la resolución lógica de la tarea. Games on net are in prominence due to the high level of interaction between pairs, situation that promotes a high number of youth spending hours in front of the computer. What guides this paper is to use this motivation for scientific learning, also focusing the education socio-constructivist view (VYGOTSKY, 1996). This paper's goal is to develop a computational model for the Scientific Reasoning teaching through the use of collaborative games, using the Coloured Petri Net formalism. This project relevance is in the belief that the shaped educational game functions as a way of learning, through principles of Scientific Reasoning, with a playful focus. It was proposed a frame that defines since the conception of collaborative game, including the interface to be applied, to the game execution. Our approach is grounded on principles of co-design, the broad participation of designers, developers and stakeholders into the process, and on a Do-It-Yourself philosophy to making and experimentation. Hands-on design and prototyping workshops are employed throughout the project to inform and shape development. The paper focuses on these co-design activities, wherein cultural heritage professionals (CHPs), designers and technologists work together in local and consortium-wide workshops to co-create the DIY platform. It is suggested that a new area of CSCR (Computer Supported Collaborative Research) is distinguished from CSCW (Computer Supported Collaborative Work) and CSCL (Computer Supported Collaborative Learning) and that the demarcation between the three areas could do with greater clarification and prescription. Although the areas of Human Computer Interaction (HCI), CSCW, and CSCL are now relatively well established, the related field of Computer Supported Collaborative Research (CSCR) is new and little understood. An analysis of the principles and issues behind CSCR is undertaken with a view to determining precisely its nature and scope and to delineate it clearly from CSCW and CSCL. This determination is such that it is generally applicable to the building, design and evaluation of collaborative research environments. A particular instance of the CSCR domain is then examined in order to determine the requirements of a collaborative research environment for students and supervisors (CRESS).

Despite the many implicit references to the social aspects of search within Information Seeking and Retrieval research, there has been relatively little work that has specifically investigated the additional requirements for collaborative search software. In this paper we re-assess a recent evaluation framework, designed for individual information seeking experiences, to see a) how it could still be applied to collaborative search software; b) how it could produce additional requirements for collaborative search; and c) how it could be extended in future work to be even more appropriate for collaborative search evaluation. Our research team has been exploring collaborative information behavior in a variety of organizational settings. The purpose of this study is to analyze the kinds of strategies learners of different levels use in peer-to-peer interaction and check how this affects their L2 oral output. The experiment consists of carrying out two different communicative tasks; the first one focuses on collaborative dialogue since learners, apart from talking to each other, have to write a short composition, whereas the second task is related to meaning negotiation with no writing requirement. The main findings suggest that to-way interaction is a useful tool to negotiate meaning, through the use of a wide range of form and meaning related strategies, being the latter the most predominant among learners. Also, the collaborative component underlying in both tasks led learners use more meaning related strategies.
